“My paintings depict my love for nature. On a daily basis, I choose to express the beauty of nature- and the emotions and thoughts they bring out in me – through art. I primarily use watercolor, acrylics, and pastel pencils on paper and canvas. I draw inspiration from my many decades of travel related to my career in international development. I retired in 2016 and decided to pursue my childhood love of art full-time. Today, I’m thrilled to say that I’ve achieved my childhood dream of becoming an artist, and am excited to share my art with all of you.”

Nature is a beautiful and inspiring subject, and it’s no wonder that so many artists have been drawn to it throughout history.
My paintings are a source of great joy and satisfaction for myself and others. I create art that celebrates the beauty of nature.
I have a strong passion for art and I have been working hard to improve my skills by painting each day since the pandemic.
It’s a privilege that I am able to showcase my paintings through a solo art exhibition in the Abinta Gallery of Fine Arts in Dhaka, Bangladesh!
The positive message I hope to convey through my paintings that it is never too late to pursue the dreams, and that age is just a number.
I started drawing and painting at the age of five. We used to live in Azimpur colony in Dhaka at that time. There was an art school, a part of Azimpur Ladies Club activities, where I had the opportunity to learn from a kind art teacher. Unfortunately, it was only for a year or so before we moved to Dhanmandi Residential Area.
Art became my hobby and I tried to paint in between my studies during school and college years. However, I couldn’t keep it up as I wanted to, due to study pressure in the University and later for my professional career life.
I worked in the international development sector for 25 years, focused particularly on developing and managing programmes in health, education and economic empowerment of young women. My work experience covered countries in Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean regions. I have a Ph.D in Medical Nutrition from Sweden. My professional worklife meant time was never there for painting. So, the dream of becoming an artist happened only after retiring from the full-time job in 2016, and I started to rediscover my passion for creating art.
Today, I am an amateur artist, exploring and experimenting in different mediums and subjects. My artworks show true versatility, capturing the beauty of nature, flowers, landscapes, seascapes, sunsets, urban life. animals, and portraiture.
I have displayed my paintings in different exhibitions in London, New York, and now in Dhaka.
I draw inspiration for my artworks from the beautiful places I visited while travelling for work and family trips.
I continue to love taking photographs, and I use these pictures as references and inspiration for my paintings too. My friends and family members have been an enormous inspiration for my art journey.
The passion to draw and paint was further developed during the recent pandemic years, and I have been super active in sharing my artworks on social media.
It’s hard to stop me now. I am committed, dedicated, and above all, passionate about painting. My mission is to create and recreate happy moments through art for myself and others.

Nazma Kabir
Artist

It is an honor and a privilege to be able to write a few words about the beautiful exhibition of paintings by Dr. Nazma Kabir. I am especially delighted not only as a lover of art but also as a proud sibling of the brilliant painter.
Art has always been a powerful medium of expression, a language that transcends barriers and connects souls. It has the unique ability to speak to our emotions, evoke deep feelings, and transport us to worlds we never knew existed. And Nazma’s paintings do just that they transcend the canvas and invite us into a realm where imagination and reality merge flawlessly.
From the very first brushstroke to the final touch, Nazma pours her heart and soul into each creation. Her dedication, passion, and unwavering commitment to her craft are evident in every stroke, every color choice, and every composition. Her artistic journey has been one of growth, exploration, and a constant pursuit of excellence. At her first solo exhibition, I am reminded of the culmination of her hard work and the countless hours she spent in front of her easel, the late nights filled with inspiration, and the joy she felt to bring her visions to life. It is through these experiences that she has honed her unique artistic voice, a voice that speaks volumes through her paintings.
Her works are a reflection of her inner world, a harmonious blend of imagination and reality. They invite us to see the world through her eyes, to experience the beauty she finds in the simplest of things, and to appreciate the intricate details that often go unnoticed. Each stroke tells a story, each color choice conveys a mood, and each composition captures a moment frozen in time.
But it is not just the technical brilliance of her paintings that sets her apart; it is the emotional depth and connection her art establishes with the viewer. Through her art, Nazma invites us to pause, reflect, and engage with the beauty of life around us. Her paintings have the power to evoke joy, sadness, nostalgia, and wonder- all the emotions that make us human.
Today, as we gather to view this art exhibition, let us not only appreciate the beauty and skill displayed on the walls but also recognize the remarkable artist behind them. Nazma was always a talented painter but due to her professional commitments she was unable to pursue her passion for art. It is therefore more amazing and inspirational that she came back to the world of her passion with extreme dedication, and unwavering commitment that truly deserves our utmost admiration and respect.
So, as we embark on this artistic journey together, let us immerse ourselves in the world Nazma has created. Let us allow her paintings to touch our souls, inspire our own creativity, and remind us that it is never too late to pursue your dream, and you are never too old to start something new! May this exhibition be a testament to her remarkable talent and the beginning of a new chapter in her artistic journey.

Nazma Kabir joined the Milldon Art Society in Mill Hill, London back in 2017. She was an inexperienced painter but very keen. Her enthusiasm and willingness to try everything, as well as her dedication to her artwork and obviously a lot of talent, has made her the passionate Artist she is today.
Nazma’s colourful paintings brighten up lives. The joy she finds in painting comes across in her work. The huge improvement she has achieved from the first paintings she did at Milldon until now is testament to her diligence, she paints every day and never loses the wonder of creating. She inspires us to work hard and enjoy painting. She shows us how amazing it is to be able to express yourself through art and never stop creating. Serenity In Nature

NATURE HAS ALWAYS IMPRESSED ME FOR ITS BEAUTIFUL AND SERENE LANDSCAPES WITH MOUNTAINS IN THE DISTANCE OR A SEASCAPE WITH COLOURFUL SAILING BOATS. A SUNSET OR A SUNRISE WITH REFLECTIONS ON THE WATER GIVES ME AN EXTRAORDINARY FEELING WHICH IS NOT ALWAYS EASY TO INTERPRET THROUGH MY PAINTINGS. YET, THEY TELL ME STORIES ABOUT LOVE AND EMOTIONS. THE TREES ON THE RIGHT OF MY CANVAS OR ON THE LEFT, OR EVEN FAR AWAY AT THE BACK HELPS ME FEEL THE SERENITY OF NATURE. I LISTEN TO MY FEELINGS AND LET THE PALETTES DECIDE TO CREATE SOMETHING BEAUTIFUL BEYOND MY IMAGINATION. I CONTENT.

The Sky Is The Limit

EVER SINCE MY CHILDHOOD HAD A DREAM TO VISIT THE BEACH IN BANGLADESH. THE GIANT WAVES WITH EAR DRUMMING SOUND ATTRACTED ME TO GO CLOSER TO THE SEA. THE SAILING BOATS OR THE SHIPS FAR AWAY IN THE VAST SEA INSPIRED ME TO PAINT SEASCAPES, BUT WHAT IS A SEASCAPE WITHOUT THE BIG SKY? BOTH OF THEM BRING HARMONY WITH LOVE AND MY DESIRE TO FLOAT ON THOSE WAVES. LIFE NEEDS TO MOVE, REFLECT AND ALL WE NEED IS SOME MOTIVATION TO REACH BEYOND OUR VISION, MY CANVASES GET LIFE WITH THOSE MOVEMENTS.

The Bright Horizon

FROM THE SOOTHING BLUE SKY TO THE BRIGHT YELLOW, ORANGE AND PURPLE COLOURED SKIES INSPIRE ME TO TAKE THE BRUSH AND PLAY ON MY CANVAS, I AM ALWAYS KEEN TO DISCOVER SOMETHING NEW AND ENJOY THE VERSATILITY. I CHANGE MY STYLE WITH NEW TECHNIQUES, IDEAS, STORIES AND THUS ALLOW MYSELF TO EXPRESS MY INNER FEELINGS THROUGH THE PAINTINGS. APART FROM NATURE, I GAIN INSPIRATION FROM OBSERVING MASTERCLASS ARTISTS AND USING REFERENCE PICTURES THAT I HAVE TAKEN MYSELF OR THAT OTHERS HAVE SHARED WITH ME. TO ME, PAINTING SHOULD BE JUST PURE FUN. I LOVE FILLING UP MY PALETTES WITH BRIGHT AND BEAUTIFUL COLOURS. THEY MINGLE HAPPILY AND HELP ME TO CREATE THE BRIGHT HORIZON ON MY CANVAS. I WANT PEOPLE TO FEEL EXCITED, HOPEFUL AND MOTIVATED WITH THE BRIGHT COLOURS.

The Hustle Bustle of Urban Life

GROWING UP IN AN URBAN CITY GAVE ME THE OPPORTUNITY TO NOTICE THE SHAPES AND SIZES OF BUILDINGS AROUND US. THE PEOPLE AND THE RICKSHAWS IN A CROWDED URBAN AREA REFLECT THE BUSY LIFESTYLE, I OBSERVE THE HIGH-RISE BUILDINGS FROM MY ROOF TOP, SOME BUILDINGS SO TALL AS IF THEY ALMOST TOUCH THE SKY. SOME BUILDINGS ARE UNDER CONSTRUCTION WHICH TRIGGER MY AMBITION TO GIVE AN ARTISTIC VIEW OF SILHOUETTES AGAINST THE SUNSET. THE BUZZING NOISE COMING FROM THE ROADS BELOW, CLEARLY ARE DISTINGUISHABLE BETWEEN THE RICKSHAW BELLS, HAWKER’S CALL OR THE BEGGARS ASKING FOR MONEY, ALL OF THESE INSPIRE ME TO SKETCH AND PAINT TO DOCUMENT URBAN LIFE. I LOVE THE PROCESS OF CREATING THE CROWDED, BUSY URBAN LIFE.

Power In The Abstract

WHEN MY MIND STARTS EXPLORING NEW AND DIFFERENT THINGS, LOOK FOR SOMETHING POWERFUL TO GUIDE ME AND HELP ME TO REACH MY DESTINATION. I TAKE HOMAGE TO ABSTRACT PAINTINGS WHICH ARE SUPPOSED TO BE INCREDIBLY POWERFUL, AND I WANT MY MIND TO ACHIEVE MY GOALS WITH CONFIDENCE.
ONCE I DECIDE TO PAINT AN ABSTRACT, I BEGIN BY PLAYING WITH COLOURS. START WITH A LIMITED PALETTE, MY MIND TAKES ME TO AN UNKNOWN PLACE, INITIALLY DON’T EVEN TRY TO THINK. JUST PLAY WITH BRUSHSTROKES. THEN ALL KINDS OF SHAPES AND LINES START TO EMERGE AND THE INNER FEELINGS EXPLODE WITH CREATIVITY AND JOY. THEY HELP ME TO TAKE MY MIND OFF THE STRESS. SOMETIMES, THOSE SKETCHES MAKE SENSE TO ME, SOMETIMES THEY DON’T. BUT THEY TELL STORIES WHICH ARE OPEN FOR AN AUDIENCE TO INTERPRET. ART IS SUBJECTIVE AND I LET YOU LOVE OR CRITICISE,

PURE LOVE IN PORTRAITURE

PORTRAITS ARE USUALLY SKETCHED, DRAWN WITH PERFECTION BEFORE THE LONG PROCESS BEGINS. HOWEVER, THE STRUGGLE COMES WITH THE LIKENESS AND KEEPING THAT SMILE, WITH OR WITHOUT SHOWING THE TEETH OF THE SUBJECT. THE EYES NEED TO TELL YOU WHO THEY ARE. I ALSO REALISE UNLESS I REALLY KNOW OR LOVE THE SUBJECT, IT DOESN’T COME NATURALLY TO PAINT A PORTRAIT WITH PERFECTION. MAYBE I NEED JUST MORE PRACTICE!
I BELIEVE THAT WITHOUT AN ACADEMIC TRAINING PORTRAITS ARE DIFFICULT TO PAINT, EVEN MY MANTRA OF PRACTICE, PRACTICE AND PRACTICE DOESN’T HELP IN CREATING A PORTRAIT WITH SUPER REALISTIC LIKENESS. BUT DOES IT REALLY MATTER? MY JOURNEY IN PORTRAITURE MIGHT TAKE ME TO THE FINAL DESTINATION ONE DAY. TILL THEN, I KEEP DOING WHAT I LOVE. MY CURRENT MANTRA, KEEP PAINTING!

The Feeling Of Paradise

NATURE IS INDEED INCOMPLETE WITHOUT FLOWERS AND BIRDS. GOD HAS CREATED EVERYTHING WITH INFINITE BEAUTY AND WISDOM, AND THE QURAN REMINDS US OF THIS IN SURAH RAHMAN: “WHICH, THEN, OF YOUR LORD’S BLESSING DO YOU BOTH DENY” (QURAN 55:13).
FLOWERS AND BIRDS BRING US SO MUCH JOY, HAPPINESS, AND PEACE, THEY INSPIRE US AND REMIND US OF THE BEAUTY OF THE WORLD AROUND US.
IMAGINE A PARADISE WHERE FLOWERS ARE IN ABUNDANCE AND BIRDS ARE FLYING FREELY, LET US CELEBRATE THE PASSION FOR
NATURE AND THE BEAUTY OF FLOWERS.
AND BIRDS. THEY ARE A GIFT FROM GOD,
AND WE SHOULD CHERISH THEM.

In Loving Memory Of My Elder Sister Kaniz Khan

MY SISTER’S PHOTOGRAPHY INSPIRES ME TO PAINT. IT IS A BEAUTIFUL WAY TO HONOUR MY ELDER SISTER KANIZ KHAN’S MEMORY AND KEEP HER CLOSE TO ME.
EVEN THOUGH SHE IS NO LONGER WITH US, HER SPIRIT LIVES ON IN HER WORK, HER PHOTOGRAPHY CAPTURED THE BEAUTY OF THE WORLD AROUND HER, AND IT IS CLEAR THAT SHE HAD A KEEN EYE FOR DETAIL AND COMPOSITION.
I AM SURE KANIZ WOULD BE PROUD OF THE ART THAT I AM CREATING. SHE WOULD BE HAPPY TO KNOW THAT HER WORK IS INSPIRING OTHERS. HER PHOTOGRAPHY CONTINUES TO CONNECT ME TO HER. THIS IS A GREAT WAY TO HONOUR HER MEMORY AND TO CREATE NEW ART THAT IS INSPIRED BY HER WORK.
